Government official, Clergyman, and Doctor of Ministry residing in Winston-Salem, NC
Paul A. Lowe, Jr. was born on May 19, 1959 in Seattle, Washington. A descendant of a family line of clergy, Reverend Lowe has served as Pastor of the historic Shiloh Baptist Church in WinstonSalem for more than two decades. He is a clergyman who combines pastoral and community leadership. He considers politics an extension of his work as pastor, as both professions help those in need. Most notably, Senator Lowe was elected by the Forsyth County Democratic Party to fill the North Carolina Senate District 32 seat in January, 2015.
He serves on the legislative committees of Appropriations on Natural and Economic Resources, Health Care, Judiciary II, Pensions & Retirement and Aging, Program Evaluation, and Transportation. Within his first few days as a General Assembly member, Senator Lowe began to focus on the economic needs of the citizens of Forsyth County and the state of North Carolina. He introduced several bills to revive tax credits including historic preservation and film production as well as numerous pieces of legislation to show that North Carolina is open for business and job creation.
Lowe has served on numerous commissions for the City of Winston-Salem and the State of North Carolina. A longtime party leader and official, he was a delegate at the Democratic National Convention in 2008 and 2012. He and his wife, LaGail, attended a dinner hosted by President Barack Obama at the White House in 2012.
Lowe received the Bachelor of Arts Degree from Bishop College in Dallas, Texas; the Master of Divinity degree from Virginia Union University (Samuel Dewitt Proctor School of Theology) in Richmond, Virginia; and earned a Doctor of Ministry degree from Drew University School of Theology in Madison, New Jersey. He also completed further studies at Christ Church College (Oxford University) in Oxford, England. Lowe served as an adjunct professor at Shaw University Divinity School in Raleigh, North Carolina. He is a denominational leader and a member of the General Baptist Convention of North Carolina and the National Baptist Convention, U.S.A., Inc. Additionally, he has served as the president (past Moderator) of the Rowan Baptist Association of North Carolina. He has traveled extensively abroad undertaking ministry and missions in Bahamas, Germany, Ghana, Korea, the United Kingdom and South Africa. Senator Lowe is married to the former LaGail Crews, retired Master Sergeant United States Air Force. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., 33rd Degree Mason, Gamma Kappa Boule, Winston-Salem Chapter of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity and various other civic and fraternal organizations.
